Happy Chinese New Year!

We had a laid back Chinese New Year. My parents had all sorts of traditions, but now that we are parents, we are not nearly as adherent to them. So for J's first Chinese New Year, we took some photos using my new tripod (Christmas present from David) as a family. Here is one of them... Jonathan got some red envelopes from his grandparents and from our friends. He is not really sure what to do with them, and we just try to keep him from eating them. LOL! You know, since J was born, a lot of people ask me when I am going to quit my job. And I do not think ANYONE asks David that question. Part of me is happy that I have the option since I always imagined I would be a stay-at-home mom, and part of me feels that it is unfair that a mother working outside the home is asked these questions. I am really torn. When I was in grad school, the women in my class used to discuss this a lot. We called it "stopping out". We were supposed to graduate, get out there and change the world, but as our 5 year reunion is coming up, a number of us are leaving or contemplating leaving the workforce to raise families. Is it because corporate America is not friendly to women? Or that enough women are not sticking it out to make corporate America change? I am not sure if it is the chicken or the egg. And I am not sure if my own choices are helping or hurting the situation. When C and I started MR, we always expected that our business would be supportive of women in all stages of their lives. Over the past few years, we have had a few stay-at-home moms who help us out from time to time on special projects. I like knowing that we are helping them, and they are helping us. Happy Chinese New Year, folks! It is now the Year of the Boar.
