Preparation for childbirth...

David and I have been taking the baby classes at the hospital. And man, watching those videos are really not encouraging... David was munching on his Subway sandwich watching the white waxy baby emerge from the birth canal, and I was sort of feeling a bit ill. I mean, the idea of having a 7lb baby emerging from me is not exactly heartening. That and the screaming of the women in the average 24 hours of labor also did not make me feel that good either. Luckily, I was not eating. Part of me wants Caroline to tell me all of the gory details of Noah's birth, but the rest of me says it is better not to know. There was a recent study that said that people would rather feel more pain immediately than to dread knowing that a lesser pain is coming. I am pretty sure that is how I feel right now. I want to just get it done, not spend too much time thinking and obsessing about it. We have 8 more hours of baby classes tomorrow with several hours on pain management, so let's see how it goes... :)

lol! Well as a mother of two kids with one horrible delivery and one without hardly any pain(all natural!) I can;t tell you how you will feel or how much pain you will have. I do not know if you took yoga lessons but the lower breathing worked waaaaaaaaaaaaay much better to keep it under control than the sort pufs, that make you lose your breath. I wish you a speedy delivery without any pain!

Drugs are your friends! I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and thought that I was going to DIE. 3 epidurals and a c-section later, Hayley was here. ;)

Try not to get too overwhelmed by the videos. I've had 4 babies and each birth was different.

hey - I've had 3 natural births (not by choice - drugs werent available) and I think the best advice given to me was to not fight any pain - it is your friend... crazy it seems, but each contraction was one.step.closer. to holding that baby in your arms and it is a neccessary step. by my 3rd child I had the 'bring it on' attitude, because once the pains were coming - it meant that baby was that much closer to being in my arms.

BTW I have friends that find it so easy they talk through everything and then its time to push. You may be one of these lucky ladies :o)
